Running Start Program Information

Shoreline Community College logoThe Running Start Program in Washington State provides the opportunity for eligible high school juniors and seniors to attend college level classes, tuition free. Students will be responsible for purchasing books and supplies, assessment and technology fees, and transportation.

Upon successful completion of college level courses taken through Running Start, students will earn credit at the college level which will also apply toward high school graduation.

Summary of Application Steps:

  1. Apply for the Running Start program directly through Edmonds CC, Shoreline CC, or check with other local community colleges for their Running Start program.
  2. Concerned about fees? Do you qualify for a fee waiver? Edmonds CC Running Start Fee Waiver for low-income students, see your MTHS Counselor.
  3. Submit alternative placement documentation (see below) or take the community college's placement test.
  4. After you've applied and been accepted make an appointment with the Counseling Secretaries to meet with 
    your MTHS counselor to complete your Enrollment Verification Form. You will need an appointment each time
    you need your Enrollment Verification Form.
  5. Review equivalencies for college courses that will fulfill high school requirements. Edmonds School District & Edmonds CC Equivalency Guide
  6. Register for Running Start classes.
  7. Athlete? Be sure to fill out the MTHS / WIAA Running Start Agreement
  8. To complete WA state history, see your Counselor for options.
