Cheer

 

A POSITIVE ATTITUDE is essential to the success of our program. We expect that Mountlake Terrace Cheer/Spirit Team members will lead by example in and out of the classroom and within the Mountlake Terrace Community.  

We pride ourselves on SPORTSMANSHIP and RESPECT for others. We lead our athletes by providing a strong morale team environment. In order to stay focused on our mission we believe that our coaching experiences, natural diversity and talents are our best assets. We practice with a collaborative style of coaching which allows for all MTHS Cheer/Spirit team members to have ownership and share in the successes of our mission.

We believe in being GOAL ORIENTED. We set team and personal goals which guide us to continual improvement. Through hard work, loyalty, and commitment, we believe we can be successful in every endeavor. 

We run a structured program that focuses on PROMOTION and DEVELOPMENT of each athlete physically and mentally. We use practice time to work on improving strength, endurance, and cheerleading skills. We follow guidelines set by the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) and the WIAA (Washington Interscholastic Activities Association) to prevent and minimize risks. We attend Universal Cheerleaders Association (UCA) cheer camps yearly and focus on skill progression when stunting.  

Through our high expectations, we require cheerleaders to FOCUS on ACADEMICS first. We take advantage of teachable moments in practice and game situations, to apply what cheerleaders learn in the classroom to the sport of cheerleading. In order to build character and self worth, we strive to maintain a positive atmosphere at all times.   

We want our athletes to enjoy their time in cheerleading and graduate from MTHS with a strong sense of LOYALTY, PRIDE and PASSION for the school and team. We encourage our athletes to put 110% into their experiences with the goal of being able to reflect on their efforts. We want to develop our student athletes to become responsible, kind and respectful adults. It is our hope that the time spent as a MTHS High School cheerleader will teach them lessons that will last a lifetime and that they will be a better person for having cheered under our supervision.

The purpose of the MTHS Cheer/Spirit Team is to support the curricular and extracurricular activities of MTHS through the promotion of school spirit and community support through positive attitudes, sportsmanship, respect, and being goal oriented. It is imperative that our program focuses on academics and have loyalty, pride and passion for the MTHS community and the sport of cheerleading. Being a cheerleader is an honor and a special privilege. Cheerleaders promote good citizenship, wholesome and enthusiastic school spirit. Cheerleaders are the first representatives of Mountlake Terrace High School, the Edmonds School District and the Mountlake Terrace Community. Cheer/Spirit Team members are role models and will exemplify both individual and group behavior suitable to their position and in accordance with the rules as stated in the MTHS Student and Student Athlete Code of Conduct, Edmonds School District Athletic Code, and MTHS Spirit Team Handbook
